“Good luck, Jaxson.”

It sounded too final. He needed to respond. Say something, but his brain was doing weird shit again, like it didn’t know words. All he could do was nod as Truce trudged toward the door, gifts in hand, attempting to blow by. Sherika believed her cub was in danger and couldn’t let that happen.

“Take this before you go.”

Sherika pulled out a piece of cardboard with a pill attached. Jaxson rushed around the bed realizing his mom was out of her fuckin’ mind first thing this morning.

“Yo, you’re doing too much. What’s wrong with you?”

“I hate when you play humble like you don’t know who you are. You know the game." His mom snipped.

Truce laughed as Mom nudged it closer. “Gotta be out of your mind if you think I’m taking that.”

“How much?”

Her neck rolled and he was face to face with the version of her he met in the hallway.

“Glad this happened before the wedding.”

“Wedding?! Jaxson, I swear if you-.”

The satisfaction on her cheeks revealed how much of an asshole Truce could be. Meanwhile Mom’s back was upright, nostrils flaring. Jaxson’s hand shot up, killing Sherika’s idle threat. Or not idle, but he didn’t have the capacity to think about it. Especially on a fuckin time crunch with a disappointment Truce glaring at him.

“You’re wildin’ forreal. Out so I can get dressed. Now!” Jaxson ordered.

Truce moved first knowing damn well, he wasn’t talking to her. Sherika’s stubborn ass on the other hand didn’t move at all. Truce’s disgust was hard to withstand. Deciding she’d seen enough, she turned for the door.

“Just calm the fuck down for a second.”

“Who are you talkin’ to?” Truce snapped causing Sherika to laugh from the corner.

He was so focused on Truce he didn’t realize she didn’t leave. Then again she rarely did what the fuck he asked. Jaxson wouldn’t be the only one not getting his way. He couldn’t let Truce leave. Not like this. Not angry but disappointed and that felt worse as she backed away from him.

“Angel.” Came out soft. Begging damn near but she stood her ground.

“I don’t need this. Get the fuck off me!”

Truce yanked free and walked out. He waited until the door slammed before letting his mom have it.

“She’s feistier than your usual type.”

“Don’t start with me. And I don’t need you poppin’ up or carrying plan B’s in your purse like a crazy woman. I can handle my own shit.”

“Guess the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.” Sherika plopped in the chair massaging her temples. “Please tell me you didn’t marry that girl last night.”
